WBC light flyweight champion Omar Nino was temporarily suspended on Tuesday after testing positive for methamphetamine following last month's title bout.
Nevada boxing regulators say Nino is the first fighter ever to test positive for methamphetamine in Nevada. The state Athletic Commission decided to keep Nino out of the ring until it holds a formal hearing in January. Commission executive director Keith Kizer says two tests on a urine sample taken after the November 18th title fight came back positive. Nino has denied using the drug. Nino could face a suspension, have his boxing license revoked, be fined and have the commission rule that his latest bout was a no-decision.
The commission also temporarily suspended Orlando Salido of Mexico after he tested positive for the banned steroid Nandrolone after his November Fourth win over IBF featherweight champ Robert Guerrero. Salido is also to have a formal hearing early next year.
