Former two division world champion Omar Narvaez stayed busy on Saturdya night in the city of Puerto Madryn, Chubut, Argentina, in the headline fight of a an OR Promotions televised card.

Narvaez picked up a ten round unanimous decision victory over Venezuelan Jesus Vargas, in a match that was taken as a prelude to his postponed fight with the current bantamweight world champion of the WBO, South African puncher Zolani Tete.

The 42-year-old boxer from Chubut showed his superiority throughout the contest - and won with scores of 100-90.5, 100-95 and 100-95 (the fight used a half point scoring system).

Even before the fight, Narvaez was very familiar with Vargas. They collided in the bantamweight division back in February of 2016, when Narvaez stopped Vargas in seven rounds.

Narvaez was last in action back in October, when he stopped previously undefeated Nikolai Potapov in a final WBO eliminator to secure a world title shot at bantamweight king Tete (26-3, 21 KOs).

Narvaez and Tete were scheduled to fight on February 10 at Copper Box in London, but the contest was postponed after Tete suffered a calf injury.

The entire show was eventually cancelled and the two boxers will collide later in the ring.

“I’m hugely disappointed to have to postpone my fight with Omar Narvaez.” Said Tete. “Unfortunately I picked up a calf injury that has severely hindered my training and the only option was to postpone the fight.

“I train as hard as I fight so there is always a risk of picking up injuries. World Championship defences are incredibly tough and it is unsafe fighting when you are not fit. Narvaez is a two-weight world champion so it is vital that I am fully prepared for him." 

Narvaez has only lost once since 2011 - a knockout defeat at the hands of Naoya Inoue in Japan. Since then, he's been on a winning streak and picked up four victories in a row to bounce back.
