News: George Kambosos Jr, Liam Wells, Landry Kore, Ekedahl

 
"I have fought in some amazing venues all over the world, from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to the Axiata Stadium In Kuala Lumpur, but to fight here in Athens, Greece, at the Galatsi Olympic Arena is something very special for me and I feel at home here," said Kambosos. "My family origins are Greek and I am a very proud Greek Australian fighter and patriot. The Greek fans will get a chance tomorrow to see in the flesh a warrior who is knocking on the door for a world title, an undefeated top five world rated fighter, who has the same blood as they do.
 
"Greece has such a long history and ultimately where boxing has its origin story, so it's only right that we have a world class fighter bring back this amazing sport to Greece with a packed stadium. I am ready to fill these shoes and do this. Friday night will be something very special. I have worked extremely hard in camp in my new base of Miami, FL, with head coach Javiel Centeno and I am excited and motivated to give the Greek fans, who are live in attendance as well as all the worldwide viewing audience, a spectacular fight and show them that George 'Ferocious' Kambosos Jr. is the real deal. I want to show them that they have a fighter with the same blood ready to become a world champion representing both the Greeks and the Australians with honor. I have a great team around me, from my coaches, my manager, my advisor and, of course, my promoter Lou DiBella, and together we will continue working toward becoming a world champion."
 
Stated trainer Javiel Centeno, "Coming off a successful first camp with George, I'm excited to see him in action tomorrow against Richard Pena. We've worked hard on improving a couple  of things in camp and I'm really looking forward to him making a statement in Greece while implementing some of the things we've worked on. George has become stronger and has sharpened his tools for this fight."

A frequent sparring partner of boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, Kambosos kicked off his 2019 campaign with a stellar performance in an eight-round unanimous decision against Rey Perez on January 19. The fight took place on the undercard of Pacquiao's victory against Adrien Broner at the MGM Grand Casino, in Las Vegas, NV.
 
Just 19-years-old, Pena has proven his mettle in the professional ranks since his debut two years ago. Most recently, he scored stoppage wins versus Joaquin Alvarez on February 9, and Carlos Moreno on December 15, 2018, both of which took place in Venezuela.

Landry Kore (9-0-1, 5 KOs) and Joanna Ekedahl (8-0, 3 KOs) are confirmed for a huge night of boxing at the Forum Horsens on June 22 as Dina Thorlsund defends her WBO World Super Bantamweight title against April Adams.
 
Kore, the reigning IBO Mediterranean Champion from Copenhagen, will be fighting in Denmark for the first time since 2016 having gone on the road to claim victories in America, Belgium and Britain before fighting to a draw against Faton Vukshinaj at the CongressPark in Wolfsburg in April.
 
“It‘s a great feeling to fight in my home country Denmark on a Team Sauerland card again after almost three years,” said Kore, who will face Tomas Bezvoda (6-6, 3 KOs) in a six-round contest. “I‘m delighted to give the fans in Horsens the pleasure of seeing the number one middleweight in the country.”
 
Ekedahl returns to Denmark after the second-round TKO of Alina Samsonova in Struer last August. The 29 year-old from Stockholm has impressed so far in her professional career and will look to continue her unbeaten run as she takes on Serbia’s Jelena Janicijevic (2-1, 2 KOs) over six rounds.
 
Kore and Ekedahl join an action-packed undercard in Horsens that features Danish heavyweight hope Kem Ljungquist, Norwegian cruiserweight Kai Robin Havnaa, super featherweight Frederik Hede Jensen, Vejle super middleweight Haris Dzindo and Horsens boxers Michael Nielsen and Amer Rasinlic.

Former world kickboxing champion Liam Wells will take on a former Commonwealth Games gold medalist live on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank in just his SIXTH professional fight.
 
‘The Choir Boy’ has impressed in moving to 5-0, 2 KOs under trainer Adam Hart and has a massive chance to announce himself to American fans on the #MTKFightNight in Belfast on June 21, when he takes on popular local Paddy Gallagher (15-5, 9 KOs).
 
As he prepares to take a huge step up from his entertaining victory over Jumanne Camero at York Hall last time out, Wells is brimming with enthusiasm ahead of his second eight-round fight.
 
Wells, whose fight will also be broadcast on iFL TV, said: “I wake up excited. I have a big smile on my face going to training. My trainer believes in me completely and that makes me feel so good.
 
“Paddy Gallagher is a very good fighter and I’m honoured to be facing him in just my sixth fight. I watched his last bout and I’m just very excited to be taking him on.
 
“It’s crazy how quickly this has all happened. I’m proud of myself but I’ve got to thank my team for taking me on this journey.
 
“It’s amazing to be fighting on ESPN+. It’s a great buzz and I’m so thrilled to have the chance to perform for an American audience.”
 
Alongside Gallagher vs. Wells on a stacked Belfast bill is a WBC International super-lightweight title showdown between Tyrone McKenna and Darragh Foley and a WBO European light-heavyweight title clash between Steven Ward and Liam Conroy.
 
Several of the leading local boxing talents will compete for exposure on the undercard; including the likes of Lewis Crocker, Taylor McGoldrick and Caoimhin Agyarko.
