On Wednesday at the Grand Palace Hotel in Tokyo, a press conference was organized by Japanese former world champion Hideyuki Ohashi, who is the president of Ohashi Boxing Gym Yokohama City. In the press conference it was officially announced that there will be a great card featuring a double world boxing championship on May 8 at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo, which is going to be transmitted directly by Fuji Television for the entire country of Japan.
In the main event, the sensational Japanese unbeaten flyweight king of the WBO (World Boxing Organization) Naoya Inoue (9-0, 8KOs, 22 years old and Ohashi Boxing Gym Yokohama) will face his official mandatory challenger, Mexico's David "Severo" Carmona (20-2-5, 12KOs, 24 years old and from the City of Mexico).
This will be the second defense of Inoue. He won the title in December 2014 in Tokyo with a second round knockout veteran and longtime champion Argentine Omar "Huracan" Narvaez.
In his last outing, Inoue made the first title defense in Tokyo last December, where he easily won by a TKO in the second round over Filipino challenger Warlito Parrenas.
Carmona is a huge underdog, after going to a draw with Parrenas last year and also getting stopped by Narvaez in seven rounds in 2013.
In the co-feature, the flyweight world champion of the IBF (International Boxing Federation) Akira Yaegashi (23-5, 12KOs, 33 years old and Ohashi Boxing Gym Yokohama) will be measured against a challenger from Mexico, IBF #10 world ranked Martin "Diablo" Tecuapetra (13-6-3, 10KOs, a 25-year-old native of Mexico, DF). It will be the first defense of Yaegashi's title after beating Javier "Cobra "Mendoza in Tokyo in December.
Also on the card, a twelve round regional OPBF championship fight at super flyweight, with Takuma Inoue ( 6-0, 1KO, 20 years old and Ohashi Boxing Gym Yokohama and the younger brother of Naoya Inoue) against an opponent to be determined.
Also, unbeaten world ranked No. 3 WBO bantamweight Ryo Matsumoto (17-0, 15KOs, 22 years old and Ohashi Boxing Gym Yokohama) will take action against an opponent to be named in a preparation towards a global opportunity in a near future. Matsumoto returns from knocking out Thai flyweight champion and former world flyweight Den kaosen Kaovichit in September 2014.
