Anthony Mundine will attempt to reignite his boxing career with a bout against unbeaten Belarusian knockout master Sergey Rabchenko.
Mundine will battle Rabchenko, who has recorded 18 of his 25 victories by KO, for the WBC silver light middleweight title on November 12 at Melbourne's Hisense Arena.
Mundine is 39 and was knocked down five times in his most recent fight, a unanimous points loss to Joshua Clottey.
Promoter Brian Amatruda suggested at Wednesday's announcement that another defeat would force Mundine to hang up the gloves, but the outspoken former NRL star is not contemplating such a result.
Mundine says he was neither mentally nor physically right for the one-sided fight against Clottey in Newcastle, and that it will be different against Rabchenko.
He continues to rubbish the prospect of rematches with compatriots Danny Green, Daniel Geale and Sam Soliman, vowing to resuscitate Australian boxing with a win against Rabchenko.
"Then we're talking about (Saul) Alvarez or (Floyd) Mayweather, either one of them is next," he said of his plans after Rabchenko.
"This legacy is about to go to a whole new level. There is no doubt in my mind that I'll be victorious against Rabchenko.
"The mentality I have to have is kill or be killed ... I don't want to have the mentality of hurting him. If I can kill him, I want to kill him."
Underworld figure Mick Gatto is sponsoring the bout.
Mundine said he would soon depart to train in the US and spar with Marcos Maidana, who has a rematch against Mayweather next month in Las Vegas.
Rabchenko is currently the No.1 ranked contender for Mayweather, the iconic American who boasts a 46-0 record and is rated by many as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
"It is a fight I think I can win and win well," Rabchenko said of Mundine in a statement.
"My style is all action so I think a few Australian fans will be cheering for me."
