“Big Texas Throwdown” is headlined by a 12-round World Boxing Association (‘WBA’) “Super” World Bantamweight Title clash between champion ANSELMO “Chemito” MORENO of San Miguelito, Panama and #1 ranked contender JUAN CARLOS PAYANO of the Dominican Republic.
Also featured on the card will be popular Dallas-Fort Worth area fighters including middleweight contender CHARLES “The Future” HATLEY, 23-1-1 (16KO’s) who will be featured in the co-main event, former world title challenger ROBERT MARROQUIN, 23-3-1 (16KO’s), undefeated cruiserweight prospect RAPHAEL MURPHY 9-0-0 (7KO’s) and super featherweight prospect DE ANTHONY BONNER, 7-1-0 (2KO’s).
In a special attraction eight round bout, top Mexican featherweight prospect MOISES “Chucky” FLORES of Guadalajara will make his U.S. debut against an opponent to be announced.
With an excellent record of 20-0-0 (15KO’s), Flores will arrive this week in Miami, Florida to start training at the Iron Mike Productions headquarters.
Anselmo originally won the WBA World Bantamweight Title in 2008 and was elevated to the sanctioning body’s “Super” Bantamweight World Champion after making his fifth title defense in 2010.
Most recently the skilled southpaw looked sensational defeating Javier Nicolas Chacon over 12-rounds on March 22, 2014 in Panama City, dropping the challenger twice in the second round towards a dominant decision.
The 29-year-old Anselmo, 35-2-1 (12KO’s) has lost only once in the last twelve years, a very close, hard fought 12-round battle to then Pound-For Pound candidate Abner Mares in November 2012.
The undefeated Payano, 15-0-0 (8KO’s) will be challenging for his first world title, having pitched a shutout decision win over tough veteran German Meraz on February 22 in his first action of 2014.
The 30-year-old Payano represented the Dominican Republic in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games, victorious in the first round of each tournament.
The Mesquite Arena is located at 1818 Rodeo Drive in Mesquite, Texas, 75149. Doors will open on the evening of the event at 6:00 p.m. with the first bell at 7:00 p.m.
