On April 14th in Copenhagen, WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz will defend his title against former three time champion Mikkel Kessler. That hasn't stopped Kessler's promotor, Kalle Sauerland of Sauerland Event, from trying to set up a remacth between the Danish star and WBA/WBC champion Andre Ward, who defeated Kessler in the first stage of the Super Six tournament.
Kessler doesn't expect a Ward rematch to happen, because he doesn't expect Ward to fight him outside of the United States for any amount of money. Kessler wants to place his main focus on the fight with Stieglitz.
"Other names are being mentioned like Bernard Hopkins and Sergio Martinez, and I cannot see Ward leaving the United States for a fight. You can see that a lot of boxing fans are blasting Ward because he hasn't got the guts to leave his home base," Kessler told Sporten. "I've told Kalle not to involve me too much [in fight discussions]. My main focus is Robert Stieglitz on April 14."
