Michael Angeletti beat an undefeated opponent for the second time in three fights Saturday night.

The unbeaten bantamweight prospect displayed plenty of skill and patience while he outboxed Jonathan Lopez throughout their eight-round, 118-pound bout on the Emmanuel Rodriguez-Melvin Lopez undercard at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. The 27-year-old Angeletti (9-0, 7 KOs), of Spring, Texas, won their bout comfortably on all three scorecards – 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73.

Puerto Rico’s Lopez slipped to 8-1-2 (4 KOs).

Angeletti aggressively went after Lopez to start the eighth and final round in an attempt to get a stoppage. Angeletti drilled Lopez with a right hand to the body that forced Lopez to take a step backward with just over a minute remaining in the eighth round, but Lopez withstood that trouble and made it to the final bell.

Angeletti backed up Lopez with a right uppercut that connected a little less than a minute into the seventh round. Another right uppercut by Angeletti caught Lopez with just under 40 seconds on the clock in the seventh round.

Angeletti blasted Lopez with two right hands when there were just over 50 seconds on the clock in the sixth round. About 20 seconds later, Angeletti’s left to Lopez’s body made him hold and attempt to avoid Angeletti for the remainder of the round.

Angeletti adeptly worked off his jab and avoided Lopez’s punches for much of the fifth round. Lopez landed multiple punches after the bell sounded to end the fifth round, but not many shots during the round itself.

Angeletti landed a left hook with just under 50 seconds to go in the fourth round, when he fought well from a comfortable distance.

Angeletti let his hands go during the third round, when he consistently out-landed Lopez. Angeletti complained about Lopez hitting him behind the head a little less than a minute into the third round.

Angeletti connected with a right hand from long range in the second round.

Angeletti landed a left hook in an exchange a few seconds before the opening round ended. Lopez nailed Angeletti with a right hand in the first round, but Angeletti came right back with a right hand of his own.
