Retired former five division champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. has come out and stated that a single phone call would eliminate Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Amir Khan from the lucrative Cinco De Mayo date of May 7th.

Khan (31-3, 19KOs) is moving up by eight pounds to challenge Canelo (46-1-1, 32KOs) for the WBC middleweight championship at the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Mayweather (49-0, 26KOs), who retired last September, would traditionally fight on Cinco De Mayo weekend. He fought consistently on the popular May date from 2012 to 2015.

Mayweather seems to have been annoyed by some of the recent comments being made by Khan and Golden Boy Promotions - the lead promoter for the Canelo-Khan HBO Pay-Per-View event.

One statement in particular which got his attention, was the claim that Canelo-Khan is bigger than Mayweather's 'Fight of The Century' with Manny Pacquiao from last May - which easily smashed every possible financial record in the sport and generated 4.6 millions pay-per-view buys.

Mayweather boldly stated that he could easily create a major shake-up by picking up the phone at any time to secure a fight with WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia. He believes a fight with Garcia would snatch away the Cinco De Mayo date from Canelo-Khan.

Mayweather won a twelve round decision over Canelo in September 2013, while Khan was knocked out in four rounds by Garcia in July 2012.

"My videographer came to me and said, 'Floyd, look what they're saying, trying to say that this fight is bigger than you and Manny Pacquiao'," Mayweather told Fighthype.com "You know, I can easily put a halt on that fight if I chose to call Mr. Garcia, [Danny] Garcia's dad, if I chose to call him and say, 'You know what, sir, you're a hell of a trainer, your son's a hell of a fighter, he's an undefeated champion, I'm an undefeated champion, and I think it would be great for me and your son both to make a lot of money.'

"Because if I'm not mistaken, I fought Canelo, right, and then Danny Garcia fought Amir Khan, and we're both undefeated, so who do you want to see? Do you want to see them, or do you want to see us? I'm just saying, I'm just putting it out there, those are the type of things that I can do."
