EBU middleweight champion, 41 year old veteran Matteo Signani, 30-5-3 and not regarded as a big puncher or very good overall, stopped French challenger Maxime Beaussire (29-3-1) early in the second round on October 10 in Caen, France.
Beaussire came forward, as this is his style, in the first round, but Signani was up for it and early in the second he caught his opponent with a big left hook that landed flush on the chin of the Frenchman, who went down badly out of it and it was stopped with the Frenchman back on his feet but falling into the arms of his cornermen.
"No I am not all right," said Beaussire in his corner also nursing an injured shoulder but after a few minutes it looked like he was all right.
This was a voluntary defence by Signani, who have Brit Martin Murray as mandatory challenger.
IN OTHER NEWS: Sanman super featherweight prospect John Vincent Moralde (23-3, 13 KOs) will be back in action after a ten month layoff as he faces Mexican prospect Jose Enrique Vivas (19-1, 10 KOs) on the undercard of the Vasyl Lomachenko-Teofimo Lopez clash, which takes place on October 17 at the MGM Grand's Conference Center in Vegas.
Vivas is a no pushover opponent having an impressive resume with a single decision defeat staining his record.
However experience is on the side of the Filipino and Moralde aims to capitalize on that advantage.
"I miss boxing and I can’t wait to fight again. I am happy to be given this privilege. I have never left the gym and training with coach Moro Fernandez since the start of this pandemic. Having a good challenge in the person of Vivas even motivates me more to win impressively and make my countrymen happy," Moralde stated.
