Matt Korobov, a Russian Olympic middleweight who strikes with knockout power, will have a new trainer when he boxes at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, October 10.
Cameron Dunkin, manager of Korobov, said trainer Robert Garcia will now work with Korobov who has a record of 7-0, 6 KOs. Korobov, from Orokutan, Russia, is working out in Lantana, Fla., but will soon relocate to Las Vegas and train with Garcia.
Garcia, who lives in Oxnard, Calif., trains world champions Steven Luevano and Brian 'The Hawaiian Punch' Viloria.
Korobov will fight on Top Rank's Latin Fury 12 headlined by world champions Juan Manuel Lopez and Yuriorkis Gamboa. Lopez, from Caguas, Puerto Rico, is defending against Rogers Mtagwa of Philadelphia. Gamboa, from Cuba, will take on challenger Whyber Garcia of Panama.
This will be Korobov's third bout at Madison Square Garden. He stopped Cory Jones in 4 rounds there on Feb. 21, then decisioned Loren Myers in four rounds on June 13. In Korobov's last bout he stopped Benjamin Diaz in one round in Atlantic City, N.J.
