Born and raised in Gary, Indiana, undefeated Mary McGee (12-0, 7 KOs) headlines her first event in her hometown as a champion. McGee won the NABC light welterweight title on October 19th with a fifth round TKO over Tawnyah Freeman. Gary’s first and only female boxing champ, McGee enjoys tremendous support from the citizens of Gary, a city with a rich boxing history going back to Tony Zale.
“I’m proud to be from Gary and am looking forward to hearing the announcer say that I’m ‘ Gary’s champ’ when I make my entrance to the ring on December 14th,” McGee said. “I’m the champ, fighting in my city, so that means I’ll have to deliver a special Christmas gift to my opponent…a knock out punch.”
The evening’s co-main event features the highly anticipated rematch between Ruben “The Modern Day Warrior” (27-11-3, 10 KOs) Galvan seeking redemption against cross-town rival Jermaine “Too Sweet” White (15-3, 7 KOs). Last February, Galvan, of Hammond, and White, of Gary, entertained the partisan crowd with 8 rounds of heart and pride. In the end, White won a decision and the IN.B.A welterweight belt.
Gary native “Dangerous” Don Moore (13-0-1, 10 KOs) looks to keep his super featherweight record perfect and Hammond’s Jimmy Perez Jr. (2-0, 1 KO) returns to the ring after scoring a second round TKO on November 16.
Majestic Star Casino is located at One Buffington Harbor in Gary, IN.
Doors to the “Holiday Boxing Bash” open at 7 p.m. First bout at 8 p.m.
