krikya360.com caught up with top ranked heavyweight contender Charles Martin (18-0-1, 16KOs) immediately following his Tweet challenging Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10KOs) to a match on HBO.  Here is what he had to say:

BoxingScene: You just challenged Bryant Jennings on Twitter to a fight.  Do you think it will help you secure the fight?

CM:  I don't know. All I know is HBO would buy the fight and when my people called his promoter his promoter didn't even consider it. He cut them off and gave some bullsh*t excuse that I didn't help him in sparring or something so he wouldn't give us the match even though HBO would buy it. Why would I spar with him when I want to fight him? My whole thing is Bryant Jennings is his own man, so if he wants to reject the challenge, let it come from him not his promoter.

BoxingScene:  You've been a pro less than two years, do you feel ready for Jennings this soon?

CM: The better question, is he is ready for me? I am not in this game to mess around. I have just as many fights as Jennings, I am rated high like Jennings (Martin is rated #7 WBO and #11 IBF), only difference is I am bigger and stronger than he is.  Truth is, Jennings is too small, I will knock him out. He's been beating up on other little guys like Perez and Spilka.  I'm 6'5" 240lbs, and you know what they say about a good big man versus a good little man....

BoxingScene: Do you respect Jennings as a boxer?

CM: Of course, you got to respect anyone who gets in the ring. It's a dangerous sport.  He's got decent boxing skills and some heart, I just don't think he has any chance against me.  That's not a knock on him, I just think I am better.

BoxingScene: What will you do if you don't get the fight with Jennings straight away.

CM: First of all, if I don't get the fight at least I will know it's because Jennings don't want it, not because his promoter don't want it. HBO would do it, so thats really all that should matter. If he don't do it, its on him.  I understand he is in line for a title shot and his promoter don't want to take risks, but if he fighting on HBO he's going to have to fight someone that will be some kind of challenge, and that should be me.

But if it doesn't happen, no big deal.  I got Michael King's King Sports promoting me.  I fight just about every month - so staying busy is not a problem for me.  I will keep winning fights and eventually I will be #1 contender and then noone will be able to duck me.

BoxingScene: Anything you want to say to BoxingScene readers in closing?

CM: If you are a boxing fan, don't stand for guys not wanting to fight each other The best should fight the best, especially on channels like HBO.  I will promise boxing fans one thing, if Jennings fights me, he can say 'By By' to his undefeated record and any chance of a title.
