Junior middleweight Marques Valle will return in a 10-round fight as the co-feature on ProBox TV’s “Wednesday Night Fights” on this week when he faces Damian Sosa at the ProBox TV Events Center in Plant City, Florida.
Valle (10-0, 7 KOs) was originally set to return against Raul Garcia on March 13, but he struggled to make weight and the two sides could not subsequently agree terms.
“I got really sick a couple weeks out from the fight,” Valle told BoxingScene. “A couple of days out, I was on track. I was going to make weight, then all of the sudden the weight stopped coming off.”
Valle said he was diligent with his diet and monitors everything he eats and drinks.
“I started to feel really bad,” he said. “And I have never had that problem. Making weight has never been an issue for me. I have never missed weight in my life. I was confused, like, ‘What the hell is going on?’”
Valle kept trying to make weight, but he realized as the fight neared that he wouldn’t be able to cut enough. When his team reached out to Garcia’s, the communication was not well received.
“I understand, it was my fault in the first place that the whole situation even came up,” Valle said. “The demands [his team made] just seemed ridiculous, and didn’t seem like they wanted to fight, at the end of the day.”
Valle has put that experience behind him and is now focused on Sosa (24-2, 12 KOs), who has previously sparred Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
“He is tough,” Valle said of Sosa. “I look at it as, ‘It is me or you’ – and I am picking me every time.”
