Fringe junior middleweight contender Mark DeLuca dropped journeyman Javier Frazier twice en route to a second round knockout win Saturday afternoon at the Southpaw Boxing and Fitness in Windham, New Hampshire.
With the victory, DeLuca improves to 25-2, 17 knockouts.
DeLuca, who resides in the nearby Boston suburb of Whitman, last fought on February 8, losing by knockout to former welterweight titleholder Kell Brook. Prior to the loss to Brook, DeLuca defeated previously-unbeaten Brandon Brewer by unanimous decision on June 29 of last year.
The 32-year-old was on the offensive from the opening bell, battering Frazier by digging vicious left hooks and rights crosses to the head and body. After barely getting through the first round, DeLuca continued his assault during the following round.
Moments into round 2, the southpaw DeLuca dropped Frazier with a barrage of punches. Frazier beat the count, but was dropped again by a right-left combination to the head. Frazier again beat the count, but referee Jack Morrell waved the fight off at 1:00.
Frazier, who resides in Aiken, South Carolina, drops to 8-15-1, 4 KOs. The 28-year-old has now lost his last 13 bouts.
Welterweight Harry Gigliotti of Haverhill, Massachusetts stopped New York City’s Robert Bricks (0-3) at 1:57 of round 3. The fight was a rematch of their November 27 clash, which Gigliotti (5-1, 3 KOs) won by unanimous decision.
In lightweight action, Daniel Robles of Ventura, California improved to 2-0-1, 2 KOs by knocking out Derek Greene, who was making his pro debut, in the opening round. Robles dropped Greene with a left hook to the head. Greene struggled to get up as he was counted out at 1:31 by referee Jack Morrell.
Another fighter from Ventura also won by knockout. Light heavyweight David Tubbs (2-1, 2 KOs) stopped Puerto Rico’s Jesus Javier Cintron (1-13-2) at 1:25 of the second round.
In featherweight action, Britain Hart (4-4-3, 3 KOs) of Bedford, Virginia, won by knockout after Kim Wabik of Revere, Massachusetts remained on her stool after round 4. Wabik (4-1-2) suffers her first loss as a pro.
Hard-hitting cruiserweight Matthew Tinker (3-0, 3 KOs) of New York City stopped Stephen Stengel of Winchendon, Massachusetts at 1:40 of the opening round. Stengel was making his pro debut.
Boston Boxing Promotions promoted the card.
