At the Teatro Moliere in Mexico City, a big upset took place when former world champion Julio Ceja was knocked out by Venezuelan underdog Franklin Manzanilla, who broke Ceja's nose in the second round and forced him not to come out for the fifth round.

The unexpected loss took away Ceja's possibility of challenging WBC super bantamweight world champion Rey Vargas - and it left and arena of shocked fans

Manzanilla improved his professional record to 19-4 and 18 knockouts and captures the WBC super bantamweight silver title, while Ceja was left with a record of 32-3 and 28 by way of knockout.

Ceja stopped Hugo Ruiz for the WBC super bantamweight title in August of 2015 in a very exciting showdown.

A rematch was set for February 2016, and saw Ruiz get revenge when he stopped Ceja in the first round. He went down and suffered a leg injury which prevented him from being able to fight further

Ceja bounced back in May 2017, when he stopped former world champion Anselmo Moreno in the third round of their WBC eliminator.

He took a stay busy fight by dropping and winning a twelve round decision over Breilor Teran in November.

Also on the card, Eduardo 'Rocky' Hernandez stopped Drian Francisco at the start of the third round and retained the super featherweight youth title of the World Boxing Council.

Francisco did not come out for the third round after being dominated. The outcome improved Hernandez's record to 25-0 with 22 knockouts, and drops Francisco to 29-6-1 and 22 knockouts.

For Hernandez, it was his first fight after being shot in the back.

Mexico's Ibeth Zamora captured another belt by conquering the vacant World Boxing Council flyweight championship

Zamora (29-6, 12 KO's) won on the cards with scores of 98-92, 100-90 and 98-92, which showed the wide dominance of the Mexican fighter to capture the title of 112 pounds against American veteran Melissa McMorrow (10-7-3, 1 KO), who finished the battle on her feet and with a lot of heart but few arguments.
