Former world champion Luis 'Pantera' Nery (26-0, 20 KOs) is slated to return to the ring on June 9 at Viejas Casino, near San Diego, California, against an opponent to be confirmed in the bantamweight division, according to ESPN Deportes.

Nery wants to show that he can still compete in that weight division after leaving the WBC belt on the scale in his most recent battle.

Nery has agreed with his team to fight at bantamweight and stage the fight in California, where there would be no concession in the event he could not make the division limit.

In his March rematch against Shinsuke Yamanaka, Nery came in way overweight - making a final weight of 121-pounds and losing his title at the weigh-in.

He destroyed Yamanake with a knockout in two rounds.

The Japanese Boxing Commission was so irate over Nery's weight snafu that he was give a lifetime ban - preventing him from ever fighting in Japan in the future.

After the first meeting, back in August of last year, Nery tested positive for banned substance which is similar to clenbuterol. He claimed food contamination and was allowed to keep his world title, but ordered to fight Yanamaka again.

IN OTHER NEWS: Former world champion Cristian 'Diamante' Mijares will bid farewell to professional boxing on June 16 in his native Gómez Palacio, Durango, according to messages on his social media portals.

Mijares, who was a 115-pound champion backed by the World Boxing Association, the World Boxing Council and the International Boxing Federation, is 36 years old. As a professional, he has made 69 fights with a record of 59-8-2 and 27 knockouts. Currently he has a streak of 10 wins in a row.

Cristian defeated rivals like Katsushige Kawashima, Jorge Arce, Jose Navarro, Alexander Muñoz and Juan Alberto Rosas in super flyweight. He dominated Rafael Marquez in featherweight and Tomás Rojas in super featherweight. He lost in his notable fights against Leo Santa Cruz, Vic Darchinyan and Víctor Terrazas.
