Lucas Matthysse was one of the greatest exponents of Argentine boxing in recent years.
In July of 2018, Matthysse (39-5, 36 KOs) was dominated and stopped by Manny Pacquiao in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Now two years later, the 37-year-old boxer is looking to get back in the ring.
Matthysse is no stranger to taking some time off after suffering a bad loss.
When he suffered a TKO defeat at the hands of Viktor Postol in October of 2015, he was out of action until May of 2017.
“As I said to the people of Golden Boy Promotions and (Mario Arano), if they want me (to return) to fight, here I am. I'll prepare myself, if it is something nice, sure," said Matthysse in dialogue with Andrés Mooney on an Instagram live chat.
"I am training, for my entire life I've trained, my life is still boxing. After the last defeat I wanted to throw everything to hell. There are things that happened, it is difficult to digest a defeat, because nobody likes to lose. Everyone is preparing to win."
However, the parties who guided Matthysse's career have not contacted him yet.
"Today I do not know (what's going on), not even Arano has called me, not even Golden Boy, but I told them that if an opportunity comes up then maybe I will (return), maybe I won't. But if the fight with (Amir) Khan comes about, let's go. It is not about just going out there and saying 'we are going to fight' - there are costs involved, you have to get in shape. If they offer me (a fight) and give me time to prepare, then here we are," Matthysse said.
Matthysse's countryman, Marcos Maidana, is also considering the possibility of a comeback. They fought in the amateurs four times.
But Matthysse has no interest in facing his countryman or even fighting in Argentina - because there is far more money to be made in the United States.
"A big fight would have to take place abroad. To do it here in Argentina is complicated, because of how they pay the boxers. Fighting abroad would be ideal," Matthysse said.
"With Chino (Maidana), I already fought him in amateurs, it would not seem fair to me to fight with him. It makes me happy that he put his promotional company together."
