The finances of Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson have been in the news a lot lately but the concern of Mike Miller, the attorney and adviser to junior middleweight James Kirkland, is their situation with SMS Promotions, which filed for bankruptcy back in late May. Putting all their contracted fighters in limbo.

"We're just trying to get in touch with 50's bankruptcy attorney. He won't return our phone calls to figure out what plans they have for James Kirkland," Miller told krikya360.com.

Sources tell krikya360.com that SMS Promotions - which has other boxers under contract such as Yuriorkis Gamboa and Ryan Martin -  are trying to assign their contracts to other promotional entities.

"Our contract is un-assignable so he can't assign our contract to a new company or anybody else,'' explained Miller, who had that specific provision written into their deal."

Really I don't know what leg they have to stand on to retain our contract. I don't want to waste a hundred twenty days to find out. I'm trying to get some dialogue going to see if we can reach a mutual agreement that Kirkland goes his way and 50 goes his way and we both move on."

Calls to James Berman the bankruptcy attorney representing SMS  Promotions were not returned.

Kirkland, who was last seen getting stopped by Saul Alvarez on May 9th, has had just two fights since December of 2013. His career has stagnated due to various promotional and managerial disputes, along with some stints in jail in the past. But Miller is eager to get the 31-year old from Austin, Texas back in the ring.

"It's stale, right now. We haven't fought since May and unless we move quickly he's not going to fight again this year because nobody is going to let him fight while he's involved in 50's bankruptcy," said Miller.
