Vladimir Hryunov, the powerful manager of former IBO/WBA 'regular' light welterweight champion Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-1, 9 KOs), who has just lost his undefeated record and his throne to Jesse Vargas (now 24-0, 9 KOs), expressed his opinion of the fight, its controversial outcome and future moves.

“From the point of the result itself, it wasn’t a particularly successful night for us. But we should sit down and think about this fight. Thanks to everyone who has supported us. I think such a fight needs to be continued in a rematch”.

“This our first experience in such an atmosphere. Our mistakes were seen with a naked eye. Khabib started too slowly but dominated in the closing rounds. Honestly, two more rounds, and Vargas would have been knocked out cold. But we have what we have, and these are the scorecards. It was a gift for Vargas. People like gifts”.

“We have a rematch clause in our agreement. We should start speaking about a rematch immediately. Bob Arum told me he would try to arrange it. But the most important thing is Khabib’s own desire to fight on. And, no, we won’t appeal the outcome of the fight”.
