The return of former super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (43-2, 32KOs) may happen on June 4 in Denmark, with Renan St-Juste as the opponent. Kessler has been away from the ring since last April's win over Carl Froch. He withdrew from the Super Six tournament after experiencing problems with his vision. Sauerland Event is working on putting the Kessler-St-Juste fight together. If Kessler wins, a fight with IBF champion Lucian Bute is possible for the fall.
"I can confirm that we are working on getting Mikkel back in the ring in Denmark on the 4th of June, and his opponent, who is at the top of our work list right now, is Renan St-Juste. Then we can aim for Bute and the Super Six winner," said Kalle Sauerland to Mishtov Zeratik.
Kessler has been training for the last two months. He feels the issues with his vision are over and the chances of coming back on June 4 are looking good.
"Yes, I believe that there is a 80-90 percent chance that I'll be back in the ring. Otherwise there would be no reason as to why I've trained very hard for two months," says Kessler.
