Former welterweight world champion Kermit Cintron is ready for his fight against Carlos Molina on Saturday at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Cintron-Molina is the co-feature to Brandon Rios' defense of the WBA lightweight title against Urbano Antillon. Cintron has been inactive since a lackluster technical decision loss to Paul Williams on May 8, 2010, which also took place at the Home Depot Center.
In the fight with Williams, Cintron fell out of the ring in the fourth round and there are questions as to whether or not he was able to continue. Cintron claims he wanted to continue, but the ringside doctor claimed Cintron indicated his inability to continue. The fight went to the cards and Williams won a split verdict.
Since that fight, Cintron signed a lucrative promotional contract with Top Rank and knows that he needs to be impressive to position himsel for bigger things in the immediate future.
"This is a new beginning for me. I want to achieve an impressive victory to aspire for better things. I know that Top Rank can get me the fights I want, but I have to look good on Saturday. I am very familiar with Carlos Molina. He helped me [during training camp] for my second fight with Antonio Margarito and I know he has a lot of skills and always comes in the ring to win," Cintron said.
