Juan Manuel Marquez, professional Mexican boxer and current lightweight world champion, joins the ESPN team as analyst of Golpe a Golpe, ESPN Deportes’ distinguished weekly boxing news and analysis show that airs every Friday night.
Rodolfo Martinez, Vice President of Production of ESPN International and ESPN Deportes, officially announced the hiring of Marquez and commented, “We are very thrilled to count on Golpe a Golpe having the knowledge of a champion like Juan Manuel, for many one of the best pound for pound of the world. The analysis and versatility of Marquez will take the show to another level; we’ll be having the perspective from within the ring on our screen.”
“I am very excited to be starting this new phase in my career and become part of the ESPN team,” said boxing star Juan Manuel Marquez. “Boxing is a sport that I practice and love very much and I am very excited to be able to share my point of view as well as my knowledge about the sport.”
Marquez is currently the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Lightweight world champion as well as the current Ring Magazine Lightweight champion. He has also held the IBF, WBA, and WBO Featherweight titles, and the WBC Super Featherweight title. Marquez is the sixth Mexican boxer to become a world champion in three weight categories.
Juan Manuel has an amateur record of 35-1 which includes two of the Golden Gloves tournaments. He made his debut in professional boxing at the age of 19 on May 29, 1993.
