Robbie Davies Jr. has been ordered to defend his British super-lightweight title against Philip Bowes.

The former WBA Continental champion grabbed the vacant belt against Joe Hughes when he claimed the European crown back in March.

Davies Jr., who will return to the ring at the M&S Bank Arena Exhibition Centre on August 2, exclusively live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN Stateside, must face Philip Bowes in the near future.

Bowes, the current Commonwealth champion, outpointed Davies Jr.’s former gym-mate Tom Farrell on the same card at the M&S Bank Arena four months ago and he is expected to face him before the end of November after the fight was ordered in the latest round of British Boxing Board of Control notices.

In other news, unbeaten Gavin Gwynne will lock horns with former St Joseph’s stablemate and reigning British lightweight champion Joe Cordina in a mouth-watering battle of Wales next month.

It was thought that Tony Borg-trained Gwynne would be fighting Belfast’s former IBF world title challenger James Tennyson in a final eliminator for the Lonsdale belt later this year.

But the Board has revealed that the fight has been agreed for August 31 at the O2 Arena in London.

That date and venue is rumoured to be the same date and venue for the clash between Luke Campbell and Vasyl Lomachenko for the vacant WBC lightweight title and the latter’s WBA and WBO crowns, which is expected to be confirmed in the next few days as Sky Sports’ next Box Office offering after Saturday’s heavyweight showdown between Dillian Whyte and Oscar Rivas at the same venue.

Craig Evans, the reigning WBO European lightweight king, is set to take Gwynne’s place in that eliminator with Tennyson.

The BBBoC have put the bout out for purse bids with the clash to take place by the end of November.

Elsewhere, Chris Jenkins’ British welterweight title will be at stake on August 3 when he faces Paddy Gallagher for the vacant Commonwealth title at Falls Park in Belfast, exclusively live on BT Sport in the UK and ESPN + Stateside, while Frank Warren will promote a vacant British super-middleweight title eliminator between Kody Davies and Zak Chelli in the near future and Ted Cheeseman will face Scott Fitzgerald in a defence of his super-welterweight crown, to be promoted by Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing, on a date to be confirmed –– along with a venue –– in due course.

Frank Warren will promote Andrew Selby vs. Jay Harris for the former’s British flyweight title, according to the notices, on September 21 at the Copper Box Arena in London and Brad Foster’s first defence of the super-bantamweight title against Lucien Reid on September 27 at Bethnal Green’s famous York Hall venue.

A new date and venue are awaited from Warren for Sam Bowen’s British super-featherweight title defence against Anthony Cacace and, finally, Ukashir Farooq will defend his bantamweight title on August 17 at the St. Andrew’s Sporting Club in Glasgow, Scotland, against Duane Winters, with the winner to waive grace and defend against Commonwealth champion Lee McGregor when call upon to do so.
