Former two division world champion Jessie Vargas is hoping to secure a world title cracker with WBC beltholder Shawn Porter in the near future.
This coming Saturday night, Vargas will headline a Matchroom USA card in Chicago, when he takes on Thomas Dulorme for the WBC "silver" title - which is going to bring the winner several steps close to a fight with Porter.
Porter captured the vacant belt last month, with a twelve round unanimous decision over Danny Garcia at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Porter is now obligated to make two mandatory defenses.
The first mandatory defense is owed to former beltholder Keith Thurman.
The next shot is going to get awarded to the overall victor of a potential fight between Andre Berto and the Vargas-Dulorme winner.
Vargas, who was a world champion at junior welterweight and welterweight, has been pushing to get another shot at gold.
In a catch-weight bout earlier this year, Vargas fought to a close twelve round draw with Adrien Broner.
"I'm en route to become a world champion once again," Vargas said to Sky Sports.
"We are fighting for the WBC Silver title, which will bring us closer to the WBC Gold. I know the WBC at the moment, belongs to Shawn Porter but I look forward to challenging him, very soon, in the near future.
"But I am not looking past Thomas Dulorme. He's a tough task that has been put in front of me but I have to make sure that I come out victorious to continue my route to success.
"We have trained properly in order to come out victorious, but then again he is a tough fighter so I can't under-estimate him. I know I have to be on-point in every second, every minute of the fight."
