Ja’Rico O’Quinn envisions Saul Sanchez learning quite quickly what Oscar Vasquez realized early in O’Quinn’s last fight.

O’Quinn expects Sanchez to try to press him as soon as their 10-round bantamweight bout begins Friday night in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The undefeated Detroit native also anticipates Sanchez having to abandon a game plan predicated on pressure once Sanchez recognizes that it won’t work in their “ShoBox: The New Generation” main event.

“I think he’s a pretty decent fighter,” O’Quinn told krikya360.com. “He’s straightforward, a typical Mexican. He’ll try to throw a lot of punches, wants you to bang it out with him. He’s a pressure fighter, straightforward, no special effects.”

The 24-year-old Sanchez (16-1, 9 KOs), of Pacoima, California, has won four straight fights since Edwin Rodriguez (then 10-5-1) dealt Sanchez his only loss – a 10-round split decision in August 2019 in Corona, California.

“[Winning this fight] will just take me to another level, take me to a higher level, push me closer towards a world title,” O’Quinn said. “Friday night we’ll see. I haven’t fought in the bantamweight division in a long time [since February 2019]. So, we’ll see what the Showtime people say about my performance and we’ll see what they think. Give me two more fights, give me a 10-rounder and a 12-round fight after this one, and then I’ll be ready. But that’s all on my team. I’m ready for whatever. I’ll rise to any occasion you put in front of me.”

O’Quinn (14-0-1, 10 KOs) stood his ground versus Vasquez (15-3-1, 3 KOs) on his way to a convincing eight-round, unanimous-decision win in January 2020. The 26-year-old O’Quinn won that “ShoBox” bout by the same score, 79-73, on all three cards at WinnaVegas Casino Resort in Sloan, Iowa.

“The last guy, his game plan was to throw a lot of punches and make me quit,” O’Quinn said. “But he found out that wasn’t happening. He thought I was gonna be holding on and he was gonna make me quit in the corner. He found out that I threw more punches than him and I even turned up more in the later rounds.”

The O’Quinn-Sanchez fight will headline Showtime’s three-bout “ShoBox” broadcast, which is scheduled to start from an outdoor venue on Broken Arrow’s Main Street at 10:35 p.m. EDT.

Cincinnati’s Jayvon Garnett (10-0, 5 KOs) and the Dominican Republic’s Luis Reynaldo Nunez (11-0, 8 KOs) are set to square off in the co-feature Friday night, a 10-round featherweight fight. The telecast will begin with an eight-round super featherweight bout in which Alejandro Guerrero (12-1, 9 KOs), of Irving, Texas, will oppose Otar Eranosyan (9-0, 6 KOs), of Akhalkalaki, Georgia.
