Youtube star turned boxer, Jake Paul, believes a crossover boxing match with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is a realistic scenario for the future.

Paul returns to the ring on December 15th at Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.

The opponent is unknown professional boxer Andre August (10-1).

For Paul, the fight will see him face the second pro boxer of his eight bout career. Back in February, Paul suffered an eight round split decision loss when he faced unbeaten light heavyweight prospect Tommy Fury.

Paul bounced back from defeat in August, with a ten round unanimous decision over MMA veteran Nate Diaz.

If a fight with Canelo was ever to materialize, Paul would be widely tabbed as a tremendous underdog.

However, Paul points to the recent crossover bout between WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and MMA veteran Francis Ngannou. In a bout that most observers saw as a complete mismatch, Ngannou dropped Fury in the third round and ultimately lost a razor-close ten round split decision.

“I think the path that I’m on now tees me up in the future to fight Canelo,” Paul said to The MMA Hour. “It’s even just showing him that I can go 10 or 12 rounds with you, [that] I’ve done that with real, legitimate pro boxers and beat them.

"So when I beat these guys in the year or two to come, and continue to raise the level of opposition, I think me vs. Canelo becomes a really interesting fight and something that a lot of people would be like, ‘Oh, Jake’s going to get destroyed.’ But there’s that fun thing in your mind, the same thing with Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury. ‘Yeah, but he’s the bigger guy who has punching power!’ So it becomes this really fun, interesting fight that I think is historical, and Canelo has expressed interest in interviews, so I think we’re closer than we think.”
