Isaac Chamberlain made easy work of Dilan Prasovic, as he knocked out the former world title challenger with a body shot in the first round at Crystal Palace before targeting a fight with recently crowned IBO cruiserweight champion Jack Massey.
Prasovic was having his first fight since he was easily swept aside by Lawrence Okolie in a WBO cruiserweight title in September. Chamberlain also lost to Okolie nearly four years ago, in a terrible fight, when Chamberlain was knocked down early and spent much of the rest of the fight clinging on to his London rival.
But after undergoing shoulder surgery last year and piecing together a winning run, there is no shortage of hype around Chamberlain.
Prascovic landed a couple of left hooks early in the first, one of which forced Chamberlain to hold, but after Chamberlain began to get his jab working, he soon established control.
With a minute to go in the round, Chamberlain landed a good left hook to the body, which hurt Prasovic who began backing away. Chamberlain was on him quickly, though, and after cutting the ring down, he landed another crushing left hook that dropped the Montenegrin to his knees, where he remained while referee Bob Williams counted him out with two seconds remaining in the round.
“I spent so long away from home, my baby is two-weeks-old and I had to be away in Birmingham at training camp,” Chamberlain said. “This feels good that I can bring home something for him.
“A lot of people declined this fight. Hopefully, Mick [Hennessy] can get the Jack Massey fight. I know he just fought for the IBO world title and he won that but let’s get it on, we can make something amazing for the UK fans.”
Stevie McKenna continued his explosive winning run, as he swept away Jack Ewbank in just 68 seconds, knocking him down twice in the process. It was the Irishman’s 11th straight win, tenth inside distance and seventh inside the first round.
McKenna simply tore into Ewbank and floored him for the first time with a big sweeping right. Thereafter he rocked him with a series of lefts before a right sent him down again, just as referee Lee Every stopped it and Ewbank’s corner threw in the towel.
Kaisee Benjamin knocked out Wiston Campos, of Nicaragua, in the second round. Campos was down in the first round by a right jab as he backed away, but Benjamin was on top of him from then on, with Campos eventually sinking to his knees for the full count with 26 seconds remaining in the second.
Another quick winner was heavyweight Naylor Ball, who battered Italy’s Andrea Pesce to defeat 69 seconds, dropping him twice.
Idris Virgo secured only the second stoppage win of his career as he stopped Spain’s Adam Trenado in the seventh round, putting him on the floor four times.
Welterweight Nathan Mizon moved to 3-0 with a four-round points win over Petar Aleksandrov, of Bulgaria, while featherweight Alfie Clegg moved to 2-0 with a four-round points win over Josh Anderson.
Aaron McKenna gave Carlos Gallego a rough night, but try as he might, he could not get rid of the Mexican as McKenna claimed a wide unanimous decision over eight rounds to claim a WBC youth belt.
