Holly Holm fought exactly as she planned to do, boxing and moving her way to a unanimous decision win over Anne Sophie Mathis in their rematch Friday evening in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

With the series now tied at one apiece, conversation quickly turned to the possibility of a third fight.

“There’s always the possibility of a rubber match,” Holm (31-2-3, 9KO) admitted at the post-fight press conference.” A lot of fans asked me that even before this fight. I didn’t want to look past this fight, so now we’ll just go from here.”

Scoring was varied in the 10-round bout, with Holm taking the fight by tallies of 96-94, 97-93 and a bit too wide 99-91.

To her credit, Mathis (26-2, 23KO) didn’t cry over the decision and gave Holm props for sticking to her game plan of boxing.

That said, she expressed little to no desire in returning to Albuquerque for a third straight time.

“I would like the third fight in another location,” Mathis stated when asked if she’d come back to town. “I would prefer the fight in France.”

While Holm isn’t averse to traveling to an opponent’s hometown, the final decision is always a matter of the event making enough dollars in order to make enough sense.

“They can’t come up with that kind of money,” stated promoter Lenny Frezquez.

Whatever the future has in store will have to wait a little while to sort itself out. Holm came into the fight thinking about nothing but avenging last year’s brutal knockout loss, which knocked her off the mythical pound-for-pound perch. The local southpaw accomplished her goal and now merely asks for a few days to decompress before planning her next fight.

“One of my best friends is getting married,” Holm said of her immediate future. “Those are the only plans on my mind right now.”
