Bally's Event Center, Atlantic City, New Jersey - Welterweight contender Mike Jones (26-2, 19KOs), returned for the first time since suffering a knockout loss to Randall Bailey in June of 2012, and suffered a disappointing stoppage loss, in seven rounds, to Jaime Herrera (12-2, 7KOs).
Jones scored a knockdown with a big left hook in the closing seconds of the second and then again at the start of the third. There was an accident clash of heads in the third, which opened up a cut on Jones. The cut was bad and soon Jones was fighting with one eye against a determined opponent. In the fourth, Jones was taking serious punishment from Herrera.
By the sixth, Herrera was beating down Jones and landing flush punches with both hands. Jones continued to get punished in the seventh and then the fight was stopped by the ringside physician.
Middleweight prospect Thomas "Cornflake" Lamanna (15-0, 7KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision over Jamaal Davis (14-12-1, 6KOs) in a much tougher fight than many had expected. The scores were 79-73, 78-74, 78-73.
Junior welterweights Omar Curry and Mariv Johnson both made their debuts in the pro ranks, fighting to a four round majority draw. One judge saw it 39-37 Johnson while two others saw it even at 38-38.
Gilbert Alex Sanchez (4-5, 2KOs) dropped a six round unanimous decision over Ismael Garcia (7-0, 3KOs). The scores were 58-55 and 59-54 twice.
Bantamweight Anthony Caramanno (2-0) won a four round unanimous decision over Marquise Pierce (1-4). All three judges had it 38-37.
Heavyweight prospect Joe Cusumano (8-1, 6KOs) stopped Randy Easton (2-4-1, 2KOs) in the second round.
