Abel Sanchez, the trainer of WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25KOs), does not believe Peter Quillin (30-0, 22KOs), the undefeated WBO middleweight king, will ever face them in a unification showdown. Quillin says he wants Golovkin but the network war between Showtime and HBO will prevent the fight from happening. Sanchez does not believe that would stop the fight, stating that Quillin often calls for a fight with WBC champion Sergio Martinez, who fights on the HBO stage like Golovkin.
"The network disputes only apply to Peter when Golovkin's name gets mentioned. And let me tell you why. Every time when Golovkin's name gets mentioned, he puts this fence in front of him and says it's the networks. Who was the first name that he mentioned after his win - and HBO fighter Sergio Martinez. The network wars only appear in his head when you mention Golovkin and no other fighter. Quillin has to either step up or stop claiming that he's the best middleweight. Why hide behind the Showtime veil," Sanchez told krikya360.com.
"HBO is going to pay him a lot more money than he would get from Showtime. He's an undercard fighter. He looked terrible, at least to me, a week ago. What is he waiting for? If he wants to prove that he's the best middleweight, then fight Golovkin."
