WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27KOs) returns this coming Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. He will defend his titles in a unification with WBC interim-middleweight champion Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51KOs).
Golovkin's star power is rising, but the feared puncher does not consider himself a star. To get there, he believes that a signature fight is needed, on HBO Pay-Per-View, against one of three biggest names within his reach - WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez or super middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
"I'm not a big superstar right now. I'm just a champion of the WBA and IBO. Look, I think Marco Antonio Rubio right now is the best opponent for me. He's the interim-champion of the WBC. And in the future, I hope for a pay-per-view fight with Miguel Cotto, Canelo Alvarez, Chavez Jr. Just three names that are pay-per-view fights, I hope," Golovkin told krikya360.com.
