WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin was disappointed when a proposed July 19th pay-per-view bout against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fell through. Golovkin understands that Chavez Jr. has some issues with his promoter that he must work through but still holds out hope that the fight can come to fruition before the year is over.
"I have a lot of respect for Julio Cesar Chavez. I respect all great champions. I know the fight didn't happen because of business reasons in boxing but I hope the fight can happen before the end of the year," Golovkin stated.
Triple G made it clear that he plans on campaigning as a middleweight but said that he is more than willing to move up in weight if the fight makes sense from a business perspective.
"My division is still 160 pounds but this is a big fight. It is a pay-per-view fight so we made a business decision to move up for the fight. Of course the weight favors him but it was worth it for this fight," Golovkin told krikya360.com.
The Froch-Groves winner has also been mentioned as a fight Golovkin may be interested in.
