According to RDS, middleweight champion David Lemieux and Gennady Golovkin have reached an agreement on the terms of their drug testing protocol for their unification bout on October 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York. The information was announced by Lemieux's handlers, Eye of The Tiger Management.
Both boxers would submit to testing by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA). In Canada the company is associated with several renowned fighters like MMA superstar Georges St. Pierre, but their credibility was questioned by some in the country, like Jean Pascal.
The details of how the testing protocol will run was not disclosed.
The HBO Pay-Per-View clash will see Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) stake his IBF world title and attempt to capture the WBA, IBO and WBC Interim belts from Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs). The winner will become the mandatory challenger to November's bout between WBC champion Miguel Cotto and challenger Saul Alvarez.
