WBA super featherweight champion Gervonta Davis pulled off a one-sided wipeout on Saturday night in Carson, California.

At the Dignity Health Sports Park, Davis only needed a single round to blow away former world champion Hugo Ruiz, who came in on late notice for the injured Abner Mares, who last week withdrew from the contest.

After fight, Davis' promoter - Floyd Mayweather - revealed that his boxer will travel to Japan in April to compete in an exhibition bout with kickboxing sensation Tenshin Nasukawa.

The information stunned reporters in the aftermath.

Mayweather, who retired from boxing in 2017 after stopping Conor McGregor in a cross-sport boxing match, traveled to Japan and faced Nasukawa in an exhibition bout on New Year's Eve - as the main event for a local card being staged by RIZIN.

That bout was a complete mismatch, with Mayweather destroying the unbeaten Nasukawa in one round. Nasukawa usually competes as a featherweight, and Mayweather was physically much bigger than him - in a bout set at the welterweight limit of 147.

Davis competes only a few more pounds north at 130, but would still be favored to knock Nasukawa out with ease.

"We're talking about May [for Davis' next fight], if that's okay with him. He got an exhibition bout with the guy Tenshin in Japan, in April. He is fighting Tenshin in an exhibition match in Japan, in RIZIN. I'm proud of Tank. He is going to stay active. So first it's Tenshin in April and then in May it's the real fight," Mayweather said.
