George Arias put on his hard hat and went to work in the co-main event at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City; Cassius Chaney didn’t in this clash of unbeatens, and that was the deciding factor of Arias won a ten-round split decision in a fight that wasn’t as close as that verdict would indicate.

Scores were 99-91, 97-93, 94-96 for Arias, now 17-0 with 7 KOs. Chaney falls to 21-1, 14 KOs.

Arias had trouble getting inside on the former college basketball star in the first two rounds, but he found his mark early in the third when he rattled Chaney with a hard left hook.

Arias went on the attack, but after Chaney weathered the storm, the Dominican battler had to deal with fatigue along with his opponent. A minute’s rest did wonders for Arias, though, and he got back to business, outworking his foe throughout the fourth and fifth frames, which wasn’t difficult considering that Chaney was barely throwing any punches.

Chaney did wake up in the sixth, rocking Arias briefly with a right hand, and a fight finally broke out in the seventh, each getting in some hard shots as they battled on even terms. Those exchanges were short-lived, and it was back to Arias working and Chaney staring in the late rounds, making it a seemingly easy call for at least two of the judges.
