Atlantic City, NJ—World-ranked Garrett Wilson, the poster boy for good fighters with bad records, makes the first defense of his USBA cruiserweight title when he faces Chuck Mussachio in the scheduled 12-round main event Saturday evening, Nov. 19, in the Grand Ballroom at Bally’s Atlantic City. First of seven fights will be 7.30 pm.
Wilson, 29, of Philadelphia, PA, won the vacant USBA crown April 23 at Caesar’s Atlantic City when he avenged a previous defeat by pounding out a 12-round decision over Omar Sheika, of Paterson, NJ. Sheika had stopped Wilson in four rounds early in 2010.
A pro since 2008, Wilson has a deceiving 10-5-1 record, 4 K0s. Prior to beating Sheika, Wilson knocked out world-rated Aaron Williams in seven rounds in Williams’ backyard of Cleveland, OH.
Wilson is known as the Ultimate Warrior. He has fought some of the best prospects on the East Coast, including Dyah Davis, Dennis Hasson, Carlos Negron and Julio Cesar Matthews. He also boxed a draw with 18-1-1 Andres Taylor in Taylor’s backyard of Johnstown, PA, in a fight Wilson accepted on 36 hours’ notice.
Mussachio, 32, of Wildwood, NJ, is a school teacher and he is nicknamed The Professor. He hopes to teach Wilson a lesson he will never forget.
A pro since 2005, Mussachio is 17-1-2, 5 K0s. In his last fight Dec. 12 in the same ring, he earned an eight-round decision over Theo Kruger, of Port Charlotte, FL, for his fourth win in a row. He also defeated Tony Ferrante, of Philadelphia, PA, and Bobby Rooney, of Bayonne, NJ, in that streak.
Mussachio has lost only to world-rated Tom Karpency, of Adah, PA, via 10-round decision.
Five additional fights complete the card.
