Ganigan "Maravilla" Lopez won a a ten round unanimous decision (97-93, 98-92 and 98-92) over Ricardo "Meserito" Rodriguez, to become the new Latin flyweight champion of the World Boxing Council in what was the main event battle of the evening presented by All Star Boxing Inc and Sports Productions through the screens of Telemundo Deportes from the Blackberry auditorium.
Lopez (35-8 and 19 KO's) showed off his experience edge to go out with his hand up against Rodriguez (16-7 and 5 KO's) who suffered a very expensive defeat as he was forcing the exchanges of punches most of the night - but it was Lopez who waited for the exact moment to attack and take the rounds.
The first open scorecards were in favor of Lopez - who won with scores of 39-37, 39-37 and 40-36. Rodriguez pushed hard but could not do significant damage against the former world champion who assumed the dominance of the battle.
Rodriguez continued to press with two good rounds in his favor, with Lopez forced to take refuge on the ropes to avoid being compromised. However, Rodriguez was unable to send Lopez down to the mat.
The second cards were fully in favor of Lopez, with scores of 78-74, 78-74 and 79-73 - who only did what was necessary to continue attacking but without taking unnecessary risks to secure the decision and conquer the Latin world title and elevate himself in the World Boxing Council rankings.
