Galal Yafai had no issues in keeping hold of his unbeaten record and is looking to return as soon as possible.
The Olympic gold medallist, who became champion at the Tokyo Games, will be back between the ropes before the end of the year after a scintillating display on Saturday night.
Yafai improved to 5-0 with four quick finishes at the Utilita Arena in his home city of Birmingham, exclusively live on DAZN, as he demolished Tommy Frank inside a round to retain the WBC International flyweight title.
The 30-year-old dropped Frank, who slipped to 15-4-1 (3 KOs) in defeat, twice before the towel was thrown in.
Yafai, who believes he will be in the mix for a world title fight very soon, came out firing with both hands and was taking the fight to former British super-flyweight champion Frank.
Inside the first minute, Frank went down while hit off-balance by a heavy left that was followed by a right, but he easily beat the count before Yafai was straight back on him with more vicious shots.
The contest was called to a halt after just one minute and 40 seconds after Frank’s corner saved their man from further punishment by forcing referee John Latham to wave it off.
"There are questions marks over me,” said Yafai in the aftermath of the win. “It's always ‘He's getting old or not ready yet’.”
WBO and IBF world flyweight champions, Jesse Rodriguez and Sunny Edwards, are in the same promotional team as Yafai and are looked after by Eddie Hearn and Matchroom.
The aforementioned pair meet on December 16 at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, in a unification showdown and Hearn revealed after Yafai’s stunning showing against Frank that he will also box on the card in the States.
“I’ve boxed in big fights with millions of people watching and I’ve fought better kids than Tommy Frank, no disrespect to him,” Yafai added. “There are levels to this and I'm not an Olympic gold medallist for nothing. I respect all my opponents, but I'm looking at world titles now.
“I think I’m more than good enough [to win a world title] but then I don’t want to rush it too much and then sell myself short against the world champions. I know that I’m ready, though, and if I don't get world titles, it's a flop, for me."
