Frank Warren believes a fight between Anthony Yarde and Joshua Buatsi is a big one for Britain.
The Queensberry head honcho said recently that the Ilford light-heavyweight was “the best guy out there” outside of the two current world champions in the division.
Yarde, who has been stopped by one of them in the shape of Artur Beterbiev back in January, returned to winning ways last weekend at the OVO Arena in Wembley, London.
‘The Beast From The East’ dismantled 40-year-old late replacement Jorge Silva inside two rounds, exclusively live on TNT Sport, as part of the supporting cast to Zhilei Zhang’s brutal third-round knockout win over Joe Joyce in their rematch for the WBO interim world heavyweight title.
In the aftermath, Yarde, who moved to 24-3 with 23 quick, called for a mouthwatering showdown with Olympic bronze medallist Buatsi.
And Warren reckons a fight between the pair, or even just Yarde against the winner of Buatsi’s next fight against Dan Azeez,
“We’ve been talking about it for a long time,” Warren told TNT Sports about the potential clash between Yarde and Buatsi (17-0, 13 KOs). “We have tried to make it a couple of times and it wasn’t to be, but I genuinely think the winner won’t be a problem with us. That’s an open door.”
Buatsi, who signed for promotional outfit Boxxer after leaving Matchroom before his last outing back in May, meets Azeez, the current British, Commonwealth and European champion, on October 21 at the O2 Arena in Greenwich, London, exclusively live on Sky Sports.
“It’s only a matter of time before [Yarde] wins a world title,” Warren continued, “but we’ve got to make big fights for him in the meantime and the situation is that the winner of that fight [between Buatsi and Azeez] against Anthony is a huge fight for this country and nothing should stand in the way of making that.”
