I believe one of the reasons the ***s don't believe in Jesus as the Messiah, is because they were awaiting a Messiah that would come to crush all of their enemies and wipe them off the face of the earth.
I know there are many other reasons they don't believe, but when they saw that this man(Jesus, God in the flesh) come to preach mercy and forgiveness, they couldn't believe what they were seeing.
2 Peter 3:9
"The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
He wants all to come to repentance, not just his chosen people, the people of Israel.”
