No doubt. Ray Davies was ahead of the rest in some ways. His social commentary lyrics about England were well ahead of most bands just singing about girls and love in those days. I think the only other people doing topical songs were those coming out of the folk scene in USA like Dylan, but in terms of the British bands coming through, I think they were ahead of the time with their lyrics.
