NSB PICK EM 2019 MASTERTHREAD
OK Gentlemen, guess we (by which I mean I) can't put this off any longer. Time to get this show on the road
For those unfamiliar with the Pick 'em it's essentially a year long prediction league. Every week or coupla of weeks we'll put up one or two fights of interest and invite anyone who wants to play to make a prediction on the result. The origin of the game is lost in the mists of time, but some attribute it to the semi-mythical figure of BrometheusBob back in 2017 after he purloined the idea from a rival website. It nearly died in 2018 after BroBob found it necessary to do some stuff in real life and it was decided to split the workload and make the game more likely to survive future dropouts by having it run by a small team instead of an individual.
This years' PICK EM CREW consists of Koba-Grozny, NC Uppercut and 2018 winner otrocubiche, representing the UK, US East Coast and Las Vegas, respectively, though we are on the lookout for additional CREW members if anyone wants to put up their hand. Any questions, problems or suggestions can be brought to our attention either here on the masterthread or by PM and we'll do what we can to help.
The game is open to all posters whatever your reputation or post count, is hopefully simple enough to pick up and for most of us at least adds an extra bit of fun to the fights as well. Maybe it even helps us to test and improve our knowledge of the sweet science and the men who put their health on the line, week in, week out, for our entertainment.
Details on how to make your picks are laid out below and will also be repeated in each Pick 'em thread throughout the year, but essentially follows the format of choosing Winner, method (KO or DEC) and detail ie how close a dec is or when a KO will happen.
For those familiar with the game from last year there has been a couple of relatively small changes put into place already and there may be some more in the pipeline, though none which should effect play greatly at this stage.
Firstly the points given have been changed to put more emphasis on getting the method and detail of victory correct.. the points scored will remain at 20 for picking the correct winner, but will now be 10 each for correct Method and detail picks instead of the previous 5.
Secondly the underdog multipliers have been overhauled, lowering the threshold and increasing the multiplier. This may make tactical picks a more realistic option for those more into the gamesmanship of the Pick 'em, but hopefully not to the extent where it should upset play balance in any significant way, or disadvantage those who just prefer their picks straight up and down.
In addition, due to the increased number of fights we included last year compared to 2017 (79 compared to 40 odd) we have decided to increase the number of multipliers available to the players. Whilst this will not show as an immediate effect we will be crediting all active players with an additional 5 x2 multipliers and 3 x3 multipliers on or around the halfway point of the year.
On balance most players seemed fairly happy with the mix and frequency of fights last year, so we're going to aim to stick to roughly the same guidelines and expect to see roughly the same number of Pick 'ems. In general all title fights between fighters ranked in the top 10 per TBRB will be included plus any non-title fights of particular fan interest. Fights with guys in the top few places of the P4P rankings will also generally be included even when (as often happens) they are a prohibitive favourite. Furthermore we're going to make every effort to include all the remaining fights in this seasons WBSS, and will continue to do so if they start another season this calender year.
Further information on the discussion and ideas thrown out can be found in the 2019 Pick 'em discussion thread here:

All that remains is to sling up a new leaderboard (with some minor changes to the order of the column headers) add in the results of Pick 'em #1 and we're good to go I reckon. As with last years Pick 'em I strongly encourage all players to check their results and scores, and to this end - as always - I'll be including a copy of the leaderboard and points tally on the masterthread after each update.

NSB PICK EM CHAMPION 2019
BALTIMORE
Previous winners:
2017 - RockyB
2018 - otrocubiche
Ground rules:
- Prior to each fight, a new thread will be made for the purpose of allowing people to record their predictions.
- Predictions must be made prior to the start of the fight
- You do not need to make a prediction for every fight to stay in the game, but obviously you will receive no points if you do not pick.
Terminology:
RESULT METHOD
KO = Will cover all type of stoppage wins - TKO, KO, DQ
Decision = Will cover all type of decision wins - UD, MD, SD, TD
RESULT DETAIL
If you picked KO, either EARLY (1-4), MID (5-8) or LATE 9-12. (Or 1-3, 4-6, 7-10 for a 10 rounder).
If you picked DEC, either 'CLOSE' or 'WIDE'.
CLOSE = Total score difference is less than 12 pts
eg. 116-112 or closer on all three cards.
WIDE = Total score difference of >=12 pts
eg. Equal to or wider than 116-112 on all three cards
If the fight is a 10 round fight or ends in a technical decision, the cutoff line of 12 pts is scaled down to the number of rounds fought.
eg WIDE for a 10 round fight will be equal to or wider than 97-93, 97-93, 96-94.
MULTIPLIER
Every player will have the option to use multipliers throughout the game when they feel especially confident of their prediction. It can also allow players who joined late an opportunity to get in the game by scoring a big pick.
2X = Get twice as many points for this prediction. You will have five of these in the first 6 months of the game year and will be given five more on or around July 1st.
3X = Get triple as many points for this prediction. You will begin the game with three of these and receive three more at the mid-point of the year.
How scores/rankings will be updated
After each fight, your score for that fight will be calculated as follows:
Correct Fighter = 20 pts
Correct Method = 10 pts
Correct Detail = 10 pts
Wrong Fighter = 0 pts
Draw = If you correctly pick a draw, you will win 120 pts. Everyone else will get 0.
The total of above results in your BASE SCORE. Your BASE SCORE for a fight will multiplied by all applicable multipliers / bonuses. If more than one multiplier is applicable to your score the multipliers will be added together before being applied, ie: a x4 underdog multiplier combined with a x3 play multiplier will result in your score being multiplied by x7 not by x12.
Bonus multipliers will be made available for fights with a +400 (4/1) or wider favorite. The amount of the multiplier can be found by reference to the list below:
In all cases we reserve the right to make exceptions to the above and will be monitoring the underdog multiplier during the year to check that play balance is not adversely effected.
Other Details
-Score and rankings updates will be made within 48 hours after a fight... maybe.
-Rankings will include number of remaining multipliers you have left.
-If you attempt to use a multiplier that you do not have, we will use the highest available multiplier that is less than the one you tried to use. For example, if you say 2X without any 2Xs left, we will treat it as a 1X play. If you use a 3X without any 3Xs left, we will try to use a 2X.

Underdog Multipliers | ||||||||
Odds | Multiplier | |||||||
<400 | x1 | |||||||
400 - 699 | x2 | |||||||
700 - 999 | x3 | |||||||
1000+ | x4 |
