Ronda Rousey receives six-month medical suspension

Ronda Rousey has been medically suspended for up to 180 days following her knock-out defeat by Holly Holm at UFC 193 this weekend.

The 180-day limit is the most severe on the list of suspensions released by the UFC in the wake of the event in Melbourne, Australia.

Speaking on Monday after losing her bantamweight title during the UFC 193 clash in Melbourne, Rousey said on Instagram: “I just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support. I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I'm fine. As I had mentioned before, I'm going to take a little bit of time, but I'll be back.”

I think the plan pre-fight was always for her to next fight in July @ UFC 200 cuz of movie **** so this actually fits in with her plans although the beatdown I'm sure wasn't part of that plan.

And at least this lets Holly Holm insure she can have a fight in between the almost assured Rousey rematch. Can't see the UFC wanting to set Holm for 8 months to wait on Rousey, although I guess its possible Holm wouldn't mind waiting on Rousey cuz thats secures her more money probably than fighting some other chick prolly.

There are any number of ways that Rousey can simply make a quiet exit instead of trying to reestablish herself as "invincible." The pressure that will be on Rousey to not just win a rematch but do it convincingly will be staggering....

My understanding is that it could be shortened once she receives satisfactory results from a CT scan. That being said she probably won't want to be back in the ring much sooner than 6 months anyway.

Well I think this is an opportunity to show that she has real champion caliber grit. Coming back to beat Holly Holm now would be huge on her legacy. Much bigger than most of her other wins anyway.

This would be the point Ronda can show her true strength... in time of defeat.

She can fight in May then, maybe a tune-up against someone who uses a good bit of stand-up and then If all goes to plan and Holly is still champ have the rematch late 2016 that would be more ideal than going head first into the rematch I think.

Perhaps if hers was the only stake in this but it isn't, and I'd wager her actions will be contingent on what Dana White thinks and believes. He lost a lot of credibility and Rousey lost a lot of marketability which ultimately hurt the bottom line. The look on White's face after the match said everything.....

She certainly won't ever reach that same invincible image she had, but I'm also sure Ronda is still worth $. Plus a rematch is worth way more $ than any fight she has had up to this point.
