    The Book Club

Being as we have a few Novelists (I won't reveal as I respect authors anonymity) I thought we should have a thread to discuss great books people enjoy

    So
    Do we have any bookworms

Drop a book with a short review.....

    The Guv'nor.....

    A Biography about Lenny McLean
A kid from a broken home to to Britain's proclaimed hardest man
My favourite part was when the police arrested him for beating up 16 attackers haha wtf
I won't reveal too much but I highly recommend this as I read it within 8 hours or so
    Could not put it down

      A Child called It....

A 3 part series about what was at the time the biggest child social services case at the time
This kids mom made my mom look normal
She made him eat ****ty nappies
      Starved him
      Beat him
      Named him it
Again I won't reveal too much but this kid persevered through so much and is now a Pulitzer prize winner and a pilot if I remember correctly
      10/10

I couldn't put this gem down. It's my favorite murder mystery. The ending was actually somewhat expected even. I couldn't believe a writer actually wrote what I'd been thinking of writing for so long. I highly recommend it. It doesn't even take long to read. Pick up a copy. It'll make you smile.

The Baroque Cycle set by Neal Stephenson. Black Ajax by George Macdonald Fraser. It's about Thomas Molineaux vs Tom Cribb. It's written in the language of the era, including its racisms and prejudices. So be warned it can be offputting and ugly at times.

The Dollop podcast did a humorous take on that fight/those fighters that you might find entertaining. I've been meaning to grab that book for years.

I read The Guv'nor also. There's videos of his Roy Shaw fights, and a few others online. Im sure it's a bit glorified, and he definitely doesn't bring up his loses in matches. Hearn has stated that Lenny lost sum in the ring anyway. I would have loved to hear about those in his own words. But yeah it's a good fast read.

Oh yeah he took some losses
He wasn't in the best of shape

The hardest man in Britain was just a tagline

                  I just love the underworld

Shaw's book was just as good
He ripped a cell door off with his hands haha
