'Black Pete' under fire in Holland

I was wondering what you guys think about this since this site is mostly filled with Americans.
Basicely it's a ****** ass kids tradition where people dress up in black face along side a Santa looking fu(ker to give children presents. They look like black ****** which is why jimmies have been rustled for years and this is the first time they're trying to abolish it.

This is bringing back some painful, awkward memories of being a toddler and waking up in the morning to find nothing in my shoe which I placed outside for black pete to fill with candy. This thread was a mistake.

So this is where the KKK got their Christian ideals!

On a side note: This should be illegal, if blackface is illegal in theater, can we not have it as a holiday.. I'm not black, but I can see how this could/would offend blacks around the world and especially in America.

I understand its Holland, but cmon now... I know it was a holiday and based off story, but this is pretty damn racist if you make the connections.

In my opinion, this isn't even up for any person with white skin to debate.

I think it's because nobody has any racist feelings about this tradition and there are very few black people in Holland, plus they don't have the kind of history that North America had with slavery and such.

So its basically the descendants of the actual group of people portrayed vs the actors.. who should get the say again?

I'm sure if it was possible to have a holiday as Hollands as ******(but all practically all Euros are white skinned) for some black St. Nick in America or Africa, they wouldn't like it all but it doesn't exist and that's reality so the above statement is all I can really say.

Black Dutch people are much more laid back and don't let things like this get to them. They're even referred to as n3gro's(which isn't meant as an insult either) and don't care. A poll on this issue did show that most think this tradition is discrimination but they don't care enough to have it abolished. Probably thinking of the children there.

It's not for me to say, but... my Dutch friend told me they're black from soot. Still, not so sure if it's right.
