The Guardian's "50 Greatest TV Dramas of all time"

As this dates back to 2012 it doesn't feature Ubiquitous Bad, but has The Sopranos as No.1.

It's a UK newspaper so features a lot of UK shows - I believe only 17 are American. But if you think that's unusual, away from your diets of hot dogs and Tru Blood, the simple reality of television is that it was, largely, produced on an era divide from its inception, with the separation coming around the late 80s.

After the late 80s the UK hardly made anything worth watching... and before the late 80s the US didn't hardly make anything worth a damn. I love The A-Team as much as the next man, but at the same time as that was going on the UK were making The Singing Detective. There's no comparison.

Here's the list - Shameless, Cracker and ***** As Folk are the original UK versions:

    1. The Sopranos
    2. Brideshead Revisited
    3. Our Friends in the North
    4. Mad Men
    5. A Very Peculiar Practice
    6. Talking Heads
    7. The Singing Detective
    8. Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit
    9. State of Play
    10. Boys From the Blackstuff
    11. The West Wing
    12. Twin Peaks
    13. ***** as Folk
    14. The Wire
    15. Six Feet Under
    16. How Do You Want Me?
    17. Smiley's People
    18. House of Cards
    19. Prime Suspect
    20. Bodies
    21. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
    22. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
    23. Cracker
    24. Pennies From Heaven
    25. Battlestar Galactica
    26. Coronation Street
    27. The ***el in the Crown
    28. The Monocled Mutineer
    29. Clocking Off
    30. Inspector Morse
    31. This Life
    32. Band of Brothers
    33. Hill Street Blues
    34. The Prisoner
    35. St Elsewhere

    45. The X-Files

Would be nice to see where Boardwalk Empire or Copper would rate in a more updated list.

I'm surprised Dr. Who isn't on there giving that this is a UK publication.

mmm it's a decent list, don't think I saw Lost up there or Walking Dead, would have them both in there. TBH I don't watch much drama and a lot of that stuff is way before my time.

Good to see The West Wing up there on the list. Although obviously left leaning, it was hugely watchable. Great show.

I think a show that gets overlooked is Homicide: Life on the Street.

Tua got me in to that from his hatred for The Wire, and i thought it was brilliant. Doesn't top the The Wire though.
