Some people may be uncomfortable with the concept, but my opinion on the matter is that gay or straight are in no way mutually exclusive, and every one is to a varying degree one as well as the other. There are surely factors of nature that play a role, but people can also under certain circumstances do *******ual things that they wouldn't otherwise (like in prison, maybe?)
In effect, it isn't that people choose to be gay. It is that people either are indifferent to members of the same ***, or they choose not to be gay (though most people are attracted to members of the opposite ***--simple biology folks--though not everyone is).
Oh, I'm not gay. And I'm not bi. But we are socialized to distinguish and prioritize these concepts. I'm not going to lie, I am personally very averse to entertaining notions of gayness, but it is not beyond my ability to imagine a sociological circumstance in which my perceptions could be different (we have precedents in for instance Ancient Greek society of a society in which *******ual activity was socially tolerated). This is just speculation of course, and I am not attracted to males, but we can't discount the social context. Hence the notion I raised that people often choose not to be gay(bi) rather than the other way around. People just have a tendency to think about things too much in black and white because it is easier.
