I bring to you the question, Has the Drug Cartels infiltrated the Mexican boxing scene?
As of right now and for years, the Major Drug Cartels have been warring with each other and the citizens of Mexico. I bring this up cause I recall a story of Rafael Marquez being kidnapped and stuffed in a trunk only to shake loose and make it out alive. It's no question anywhere in the world, where there is crime, there is extortion. But my focus is on Mexico right now cause 1: Boxing is a major sport there and captures a wide audience, that means big business. 2: Mexican drug cartels currently have a stronghold on the drug/crime trade.
I also remember a rumor about the Arce vs Vasquez fight involving the cartels. With the Cartels and vigilantes extorting poor mexican citizens and immigrants from Central America. What makes you think they dont have a hand in extorting boxers or fixing fights?
