Which graphics tablet should I buy?

Im looking to get a graphics tablet for learning to draw(shadding and realistic portraits), to use on the side for games and just to see what its like using one as a pointing device.

ive got about 200$'s to spend on the tablet and im drawn between the wacom bamboo fun and the wacom intuos4 small.

any of you members use tablets?

8.5*5.5 vs 6.2*3.9

is it worth it to go with the smaller active area that has incredible responsiveness to pen strokes for 30$'s more or is half the pressure sesativity of the bamboo fun more then enough and with the bigger active area the better option?





or is there some other tablet thats cheaper and just as good?

Only yesterday i ordered the small Wacom touch. I was tempted to get Wacom Bamboo fun, but the touch is only slightly more expensive and seems to make everything much easier.(zooming in and out, erasing, and navigating on my mac)


I havent used one of these before, but looked at some demos on youtube.
Id go with Bamboo fun if i was u. Heard nothing but good things about it.

Wacom are the best. Personally I have an A4 size Wacom Intous3 and they are great to use, and if you buy the pro version you won't be sorry.

The resell value on Wacom tablets is good so if you decide it's not for you, them you can sell it for near enough what you paid.

I have the airbrush tool which really makes a change to the normal pen tool.

Any Wacom brand tablet is a good buy, I wouldn't buy any other brand. From experience, the size of the active area and pressure sensitivity doesn't matter much. If you're working with Photoshop, there are ways to make up for those. Pressure sensitivity can be fixed by adjusting opacity/brush size and having a small active area isn't really a problem since you'll probably be zoomed in most of the time. Plus, you have more control over your strokes working in a smaller area.

If I were you I would base my decision on where you're planning to use the tablet. If you're planning to keep it at home or the office, get the big one. If you're planning to travel a lot with it like say to school, get the smaller sized one to carry it around easier.

i cant see anything bad with the bamboo fun. the intuos has a scroll wheel but the fun has multi touch gestures so if i use 2 fingers instead of 1 i scroll automatically. plus you can use your fingers which would make it alot better for gaming im thinking.

i see that the intuos comes with some cool tips like some ment to emulate pencil and paper and ones that are spring loaded to be more like a paint brush. is the airbrush pen just a fatter handel and diffrent nib just to give you the feel of working with an air brush or does it make changes other then that too?

The different nibs can help; I have my pen tool set up with a normal nib and my airbrush with a spring loaded nib to simulate a softer more sensitive pressure. The airbrush has a wheel at the top of it that I usually have set for flow speed. In Photoshop the airbrush tool is sensed by the tablet and all the controls are changed to an airbrush tool in PS (no other pen does this).

I've used the bamboo (sister has it) and it's a nice little tablet. If you're more interested in art though, go for the intous.

The more i look into the the better they both seem.

better pen angeling and sensetivity

the diffrent types of pens offered only work with the intuos and above

theres the perscicion button and theres the scroll button with the option to rotate the work space so i dont have to rotate the pad.

drawing on the pad actually feels like a pencil on paper and not plastic on plastic.

really i just want a pad in hopes that i might get better at star craft 2.....but if i dont get better id much rather have the incredible art pad then the all around pad.

Yeah, it helps not having to change the controls all the time. Both pens can be different sizes and shapes etc.

Once you start using a tablet, drawing with a mouse will feel like using a brick.
